PASTORAL CARE AT IMPACT INDEPENDENT SCHOOL

Cheryl Dudey is Pastoral and Behaviour lead and Aimi Lynch is Pastoral and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead at Impact Independent School.

Pastoral support is a service that gives help and support to students as well as providing information, advice and guidance. We always work in close partnership with teachers, parents/carers and other specialist agencies.

What are the aims of the service?

Our aim is to identify any concerns or issues at the earliest possible opportunity and remove any barriers to learning, which may be preventing our students from reaching their potential.

We pride ourselves in knowing our young people well. Working alongside the teaching and support staff we aim to develop positive relationships with them and their families. We respond as quickly as possible to any issues and ensure that difficulties are discussed and resolved in the best possible way.

The pastoral support team at Impact Independent School commonly offers help and support in the following areas:

  • Behaviour support/management

  • Emotional help (including anger management and counselling)

  • Academic support (including intervention work, specialised timetables and programmes)

  • Restorative approaches

  • Peer mediation

  • Links to specialist external agencies when needed

Who gives pastoral support?

The pastoral system is the responsibility of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) who oversees all staff working in this context with our young people. All staff at Impact give pastoral support.

If we have concerns about any students, referrals can be made by the pastoral manager, classroom teachers, parents/carers, support staff and the students themselves through a self-referral process.

Other links to the pastoral team

Impact Independent School has a team which includes the school's SENCO, an attendance officer, targeted youth support and an attached school nurse.

We also work closely with other support agencies such as the local authority social inclusion team, child and family support and many others.
